Oxfordshire Family Support Network (OxFSN)
What are our aims:
- Identify and link together individuals, groups and organisations who are already delivering quality support, information and advice to family carers and relatives of people with learning disabilities with a view to bringing people together and working collectively to bring positive change to people’s lives
- Establish a voluntary database of all parents and family carers, to ensure that they receive up-to-date information on issues that may affect them as individuals and families
- Give family carers the opportunity to express their own views about the services they want to see improved and developed
- Deliver quality training opportunities to parents and family carers to help them plan for themselves and those they support with a vision that is both positive and achievable
- Offer links to useful information/organisations/individuals locally and nationally
- Work to ensure that individual assessments are carried out in a person centred manner, in partnership with parents and family carers, some of whom may wish to take a lead role. The outcome should be accurate plans reflecting the needs of the individual with adequate resources allocated to meet the identified needs
- Work towards ensuring that every person with a learning disability has the opportunity to develop to their full potential through the provision of person-centred services and appropriately trained staff
- Advocating the need for resources to be readily available to ensure an improved quality of life for people with learning disabilities and their family
